Cloud County Health Center (CCHC) in Concordia will begin construction on a new $40.35 million, 74,000-square-foot facility later this year to replace the community's existing hospital that was built in the 1950s.
The effort will not add to the tax burden of Cloud County citizens and will be mostly funded through a loan awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) earlier this year. CCHC has always operated without local tax support—a rarity among small community hospitals.
The new facility will be constructed along U.S. Highway 81 near Cloud County Community College in Concordia's South Development. The new location will offer quicker access to the highway and airport for emergency transfers and afford a high level of visibility within the community.
Fourteen inpatient rooms, a new physicians' clinic, emergency department, and space for outpatient specialty clinics and a comprehensive array of ancillary services are included in the design. Completion of the project is expected in the first half of 2022.
